Shimano Digital Control Reels |
In 2003, Shimano brought to market the world's first self-energizing, digital-braking baitcasting reel, the Calcutta TE DC reel. The Digital Control system recharges with each cast and needs no battery or power source. Eight pre-programmed braking patterns provide awesome control by applying the ideal amount of braking force at critical intervals of up to 1/1000 of a second. The Shimano Calais DC reel features an improved 4x8 Digital Control braking system. 4x8 refers to four modes: Extreme Distance, Long Distance, Accuracy and Wind. Each mode has eight different brake-strength settings for a total of 32 brake settings.
